The engine on Leeward was kept after the conversion, and it consists of:
4Wärtzila/ Pielstick V-12 on 4780 kw total: 19120 kw.
3 auxillary engines: Wärtzila Vasa rekke 6: 2 stk on 1850 kw and 1 on 2400 kw, and 2 boilers for heating.
After the coversion the generator capacity was extended beqause of the installing of 3 new ac compressors:
2 main engines was equipped with shaft generators, so it was possible to chose if you would use them as propulsion or generator.
And after the big aux. engine collapsed (see picture) we had to us a main engine constantly as generator, which caused redust air condition or redused speed.-
The Whole engine had to be replaced while we where in traffic so it was a complicaded operasjon which took over 2 months to accomplish.

Her we are on the Marine Atlantic repair yard in Mobile -Alabama,
The ship is in a floating dock. (It is a huge tub that floating up when they pump out water)

After the cruisings in and out the mudded fjord in to Alexandria. We had sailed over several sand banks, so that there was several things that has to be repaired: several plates under the hull had been smashed in and had to be changed and 2 propeller blades was bended and both rudders had to be refittet with new bearings.
When the ship drowe ovewr the sandbanks the whole engine room was wibrating and everyting in the controll room was shaked so we had to hold our self to somenting. We also had problems with the cooling water intakes, they got stuck all the times whith mud and small fish.
We where supposed to have 14 days at the yard but it was only a week because of the "Hurricane George" caused much damages and we had to wait outside the coast befor we cold came in.
